The Bulging Right Pocket

It was one of the worst periods of time in my life.
Recently separated, I had just lost custody of my two daughters and was forced to vacate my newly-renovated home (with three days notice) that contained the well-equipped recording studio I had spent two years building prior to selling my drycleaning business (in order to build a long-desired music production company).
Divorce - Canadian style!
Two years before, I discovered that a *friend,* a music contact I had worked with and even spent time with in Hollywood a decade prior, had stolen a song that I and my music partner had written and presented to this budding writer/producer at that time. He had since become a major player in the music business and had ‘borrowed’ much of our song, placing it on the album of a multi-million selling female artist. Read more

The Perception of Different as Dangerous

Developed a long time ago, and still buried deep in the human psyche, a safety system was added to our make-up. It was a necessary survival mechanism that ensured the success of the human species. It was the mental processing component that warned us to be on alert, that anything that we are not familiar with could be dangerous.
This is certainly understandable. A snake we have never seen before could be poisonous, or not. “Watch out” , we scream! People we are not familiar with could be malicious…so, “don’t talk to strangers” rolls off most mother’s tongues. Clearly, this mechanism is highly valuable in keeping us safe, but the natural assumption that inevitably permeates our psyche as a result is that everything we are not familiar with is likely, rather than possible, to be dangerous.
This characteristic is fairly well understood by people whose personal agendas are less than admirable, and they use this natural fear against us. Read more
How to Change the World in 7 Days

I’d like to inspire you to think carefully about your personal sense of happiness. This is about how the discovery and pursuit of a higher purpose can be a major turning point in creating greater personal meaning while simultaneously helping build a better world.
It is well-known that high-powered executives who do volunteer work say that they get much more personal satisfaction from their volunteer work than from their jobs. I’m sure that goes for the vast majority of us regular folks too. We find much greater meaning in those moments that we help others from heart-inspired work than from simply doing a job.
Now if you’ve felt that there just has to be more to the life you are living now, I’d like to take you on a little guided journey of exploration that can reveal an important new path for you. Your only expense will be a little introspection time, and it could lead you to a means of creating positive world change while helping you make your living in a higher way. Read more

Haiti Needs Your Help!

I’m writing about the devastating 7.0 earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday just before sunset. The capitol, Port au Prince, where about one-third of Haiti’s 9 million residents live, has been mostly destroyed. According to CNN, “Haiti’s first lady, Elisabeth Debrosse Delatour, reported that ‘most of Port-au-Prince is destroyed’.”
Many, many, many people are trapped under rubble screaming, begging, and praying for help. The people there are helping as best they can, but without a flood of proper equipment for lifting and cutting concrete, it is clear that the death rate will be enormous.
There is no country in the world that has the resources to deal with the scope of devastation in Haiti (as a percentage of the country destroyed). For one thing, Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere and its building standards are nothing like what we have here in California. Many (maybe most) concrete block buildings have no reinforcing steel resulting in the massive–truly unbelievable–devastation. Read more
The Passing of a Legend

Jim Rohn was a mentor to millions. He was a mentor to me.
On December 5, 2009, “America’s Business Philosopher” passed after a brave, 18-month battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
I could write pages about how this man of wisdom impacted my life but instead I want to share an exclusive interview that I, and a business partner, Audrey Lanford, had the privilege of conducting with Jim from his home, in 2002, on the subject of spirituality in business. Click the Play button at the end of this post. Read more

“Love, Joan” - a Tribute

She told Julian and I that she arrived at the total of her generous donation based on a certain amount she pledged on behalf of each of her five children, in the name of it making a more peaceful world for them.
That donation to 10 Million Clicks For Peace was from the woman I came to affectionately call, “Love, Joan”. See, over the years, Joan Bramsch signed every email that way.
Thing is, long before she donated to feed the world’s forgotten war refugees in her children’s names, Joan donated to, and helped promote, my Internet Toy Drive, which has helped the U.S. Marines and their Toys for Tots program to purchase toys for needy families at Christmas for nine years.
The connection Joan and I shared ran much deeper than just donating to my causes. She naturally did those things because she believed she could help change the world, and she certainly did that, in many ways. Just one of them was the precious information she freely provided to parents, teens and children. Joan’s Empowered Parent newsletter was one of my all-time favorites because every issue was filled with information that families could readily apply to make their homes happy, safe and nourishing environments. My Big Fat Greek Encounter

Late again! My new doctor, who I met last year in the emergency ward after suffering a rather nasty concussion while curling.
If you’re not familiar with this winter sport, curling is akin to shuffleboard but you play it on a “sheet”. A sheet of ice that is, directing 44 pound “rocks” toward the opposing “house”. When not sliding them down the ice to knock out the opponents’ rocks, you are sweeping in front of the rotating objects like a madman at the behest of a screaming “Skip” (the captain of the four-member team) who determines if your manic, frantic action will help guide the rock to its desired destination. This was my first attempt at playing the game, one that had always looked to me on television as rather docile, and I soon came to realize that wearing the wrong kind of shoes on the pebbled ice can cause you to go caboose-over-tea-kettle, landing on your head prior to landing in the back of an ambulance just before landing in the hospital.
Now that you’ve received your first curling tip, back to my new doctor. Read more
