How to Have an Invincible New Year

December 31, 2016 by admin

This year don’t set hollow goals or inflated ones, ones that will make up for every choice you didn’t make before. That’s like getting out a whip– and calling it a rose.

This year I want you to cultivate a power and presence within you that allows you to choose your good all the time, that takes every circumstance of your life and makes it a crucible that uses all of you. You are worth so much more than one year can offer. You are worth so much more than a few paltry achievements, even if they sound like the moon to you.

That said, a worthy goal or two, can help you realize how powerful you are.  Sometimes we have to want something, in order to spread our great silver wings— or even to discover that we have them. Read more

The One Choice That Will Make All the Difference in Following Your Dreams

Are you casually allowing a negative inner voice to make your most important decisions?

I’ve been a career/success coach for almost 25 years and I can tell you this. Nothing will hold back your right life more than listening to the wrong voice. Your net-(un)worth doesn’t matter. Your age, education, or an even the fact that you work 3 full time jobs, or maybe it justfeels that way, doesn’t matter. The love within you has the key to a thousand capacities you don’t even know you have. But you may, instead, be listening to a dark voice that spits acid and rat pellets at you, while claiming to be “practical,” and just shooting for a nice, safe retirement is all.

But your inspired life will never come from listening to your demons. The life that every fiber of you desires, even if you don’t know how to name it, will never come from listening to painful conclusions about your past. If something is still painful, it’s not resolved. It’s not blessed. It’s not yet understood. It’s not an indication of the life that calls you now. Read more

The Year of Sleeping Dangerously

Every act of creation begins with an act of destruction.”
~Pablo Piccasso

Well, you are getting results already.

Two minutes after you make your grand entrance into a bold new life, don’t be surprised if passion and anticipation give way to a divine sludge. It’s like the second you fly the coop, you land in this vat of emotional pea soup. Now home and alone, litheness slows to listlessness, a maddening drop in energy. Should this happen to you, know that you are not crazy or alone. You have just entered the transition zone. Congratulations. Collapse is progress.

After I walked out of my high-paced, breathless career, I functioned at what seemed to be two notches above the living dead line. I waited tables, bought groceries and fed my cat. But I slept for what seemed to be unnatural numbers of hours. My mind revved up like an eager sports car engine racing with the need to create a new and improved life. But I found my physical self dragging around the apartment in slow motion in my underwear in the middle of the day and then taking naps to recuperate. I felt like a beached whale hungering for the sea. I ate bagels and cream cheese and leftovers and lunchmeats instead. Guilt took finky little notes about my attraction to the refrigerator and read them over in my head. Read more

This is an excerpt from Tama’s book, Inspired & Unstoppable: Wildly Succeeding in Your Life’s Work! (Tarcher/Penguin). Inspired & Unstoppable is all about how to use inspired means to achieve any of your dreams:

The world is not holding you back. You are holding the world back. You are holding back your strength and your strength can make a difference at this time. You have a power in you that can move mountains, and, better yet, people. But you’re still allowing others to tell you what’s possible or right. Read more

I don’t know about you, but I have barely begun to grasp that it’s 2013, and now they’re playing “Jingle Bells” in Walgreens. How did this happen? The months zipped by like red Camaros. And now there is the “reckoning” with ourselves– did we use and live our year the way we meant to?

If you’re feeling as though you wish you’d moved closer to your ultimate dreams, I have a story/ritual to share. I want to give you a pivotal way to open to the abundance that is heading your way right now. Read more

Being Grateful for Yourself, Your Unusual Life, and Your Courage: A Thanksgiving Power Practice

Some of you may be celebrating this Thanksgiving with hugs, easy conversation, turkey and pumpkin pie. Yet some of you may feel stranded, like the marble that rolled away from the group, stuck with the dust bunnies in outer space or abandoned under the buffet. And some of you may feel stranded in broad daylight, surrounded by people, feeling invisible, or worse yet, as visible and broken as a car wreck on the side of the road, strangers gathering to gawk at the shattered glass.

For many, the holidays can bring up discomfort. Read more

5 Ways to Get Inspired When You’re Feeling Broken, Beaten or Blah

A factory outputs identical pieces of plastic merchandise, no matter what. But you are “operationally challenged” –for you are made of conscious bold choices, moods, and miracles.

A mechanical life requires output, form, and results measured down to the chin hair of the decimal point. An organic life is natural. It’s blemished and mythic. You will not endlessly “produce” without having awakening times of getting to know yourself again and again– and working with riotous forces.

As an author, coach, and motivational speaker, I make my living “being inspired” and helping others discover their wild, true fountain of infinite good. That means I’ve had to learn how to take scrap metal and turn it into gold. And sometimes I’ve had to learn how to take VPs of Craziness, broken artists, and midlife menopausal hopelessness, exhaustion, cynicism and spontaneous-hatred-of-humanity and turn that into passion and bliss. Bet the Farm on Your Own Life: Awaken To Your Own Authority

Getting the A:

I used to be the girl who needed to nab an A in every subject in school. I’d study what you wanted me to study—what grabbed your attention, not mine. That’s because I had no idea that chasing approval and “security” was keeping me from discovering my certainty and my power, my chance to create everything I’d ever wanted.

But this is what I’ve come to learn again and again: You can’t chase approval and aliveness at the same time. Do you want to live someone else’s advice? Or do you want to live your birthright?

An inspired life is the result of owning your own brilliance—following your own indwelling authority. It’s the intimate landscape of learning how to listen to and trust the infallible specificity of your guidance. This is a life that isn’t on any map. Read more

Outgrowing the Life You’ve Known: The Loneliness & Loss of Blossoming

December 19, 2012 by admin

“It’s lonely to follow your bliss,” said Deb, a student in a recent workshop. “Say more,” I asked, trying not to salivate. I confess it’s a topic near and dear to my heart lately.

“I used to have all these friends. We’d eat, drink, and bitch about our lives. We’d tell stories of stupid co-workers, Cretan, evil bosses, you know,” she said. Of course, I remembered that. “Trading distressing stories like baseball cards– and suddenly, you have nothing ‘sexy’ to swap because you’re focused on your dreams now, not your setbacks,” I said. “Exactly,” said Deb. “But now I don’t have that camaraderie, because I’m not pissed off anymore. No one from my old life wants to hear how much fun I’m having. And, frankly, I don’t want to hear how much their lives don’t work.”

This is the “problem” with growing. Sometimes, in order to connect with yourself, you have to separate from what you’ve known. The aliveness of love will ruin your chances of stagnation. It will call you out. Success demands loss. Sometimes, we have to let go of waning definitions, circumstances, or relationships that no longer reflect us so that we can blossom wide. Read more

There’s Only One Note You Came to Sing

I listen to creative minds, visionaries, and entrepreneurs all day long in my coaching practice and I am moved by the spirit that moves them. Like you, they bounce off walls with ambition, hunger, and frustration. They secretly dream big, because they are big. Still they whisper their most gorgeous desires, swallowing hard, as though they are confessing, say, a small hygiene problem or a third head. “I don’t even know if I’ll ever have what I want,” they say. But I do. I know they are relentlessly drawn to where they belong.

We don’t choose our wildest dreams. They choose us. They point us toward our natural environment. When we’re not using our deepest gifts, we can feel like trout thrashing about on a dock desperate to find water. It’s that necessary to live our calling. It’s eventually unbearable to deny our love, strength, and essence. We’ve said “yes” to some sacred arrangement in the ethers, and here on earth—until we live our most meaningful dreams—we ache with the pangs of blessings unfulfilled. We can golf if we want to, but it will never fill that hole. We can shop, but we can’t buy our freedom. We can even hire a “life coach,” but then, and I hate this part, we still have to do our life.
