Thank You, Sir Winston

This afternoon, as I sat on my back porch looking at the trees, still devoid of leaves, I thought it was time to send out another newsletter. As you know, my newsletters are few and far between. I never want to burden you with lots of useless information so, as not to waste your time, I think carefully about what I should write.
It was quiet and relaxing, just sitting there with my thoughts. I let my attention shift for a moment from the trees to the sky. It was a bright, cloudless day. Not even a balmy breeze — just a cool, wonderful afternoon. As I looked up again at the sky, I wondered where all the stars were. I couldn’t see even one.
Of course, I couldn’t see them because they were all hidden by the brightness of the sun. But the stars hadn’t gone anywhere. They were always there. They do not run and hide or just disappear into nothingness when the sun comes up. They seemed to have been lost. We just cannot see them when our vision and perception are blocked by clouds or the sun or a roof or even deep thought. Read more

Being thankful for life itself

Being thankful for life itself is a way of making life better. When we look away from our problems, even for a short time, and generate joy in our hearts, we find that the world seems to change a bit.

Christmas Story - A True Story of a Holiday Miracle

Long, long ago, in a small, tropical village in a country far, far away, a little boy lived with his parents in a two room house. He could not have been more than four or five years old and his entire experience of life was limited to the fishing and farming village, his neighbors and friends.
It wasn’t that the little boy was unhappy. Given his situation, he was a rather cheerful, optimistic lad, but times were hard for his parents. The village was recovering from the recent floods that had wiped out his parents livelihood. And the Christmas holidays were just around the corner.
Now in this little village of long ago, people of various religions lived and worked together in harmony. Everyone enjoyed each other’s religious holidays and everyone looked forward to the celebrations where Christians, Hindus, Muslims and others would gather. The parents would provide gifts for the children and little boys and little girls would squeal with delight as they played with their simple toys. Read more

Often, it seems, we come upon a problem that takes all our strength to even begin to figure how to solve it. As time goes on, it appears that every problem we encounter becomes more difficult than the previous one. How can we proceed when it appears that the world is crashing all around?
What choices do we make? Where do we go for help? How do we cope? What road do we choose? Obviously, Yogi Berra’s statement, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it” does not bring us great comfort at such times.
Some of us analyze the facts and study the intricacies of the problem. This is good, but analysis is not always enough. Then again, we may not and cannot know all the facts. Analysis alone may lead to the “paralysis of analysis.” And facts may not be facts after all. Many of them may just be opinions. Read more
Life whispers to us all the time

Life whispers to us all the time… Find a quiet spot in the middle of the turbulence. Go to a quiet place within your soul and stay there for a short while. Do not rant and rave at the problem. Just go to this spot and let your fears be calmed, even for a moment. Don’t listen to the call of the problem but, rather, listen for a few seconds to the song of your soul.

Problems

Whenever problems seem to get the best of me, I go to a quiet place that lies somewhere in my soul. I do not reason, analyze or think. I simply go. From this place of silence, I garner strength and inspiration to stand firm in the face of fire, to be calm in the midst of thunder. When I emerge, the world has not changed, but I have. And in changing, a whole new world is born.

The Power of Giving

It was a really hot summer’s day many years ago. I was on my way to pick up two items at the grocery store. In those days, I was a frequent visitor to the supermarket because there never seemed to be enough money for a whole week’s food-shopping at once.
You see, my young wife, after a tragic battle with cancer, had died just a few months earlier. There was no insurance — just many expenses and a mountain of bills. I held a part-time job, which barely generated enough money to feed my two young children. Things were bad — really bad.
And so it was that day, with a heavy heart and four dollars in my pocket, I was on my way to the supermarket to purchase a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread. The children were hungry and I had to get them something to eat. As I came to a red traffic light, I noticed on my right, a young man, a young woman and a child on the grass next to the road. The blistering noonday sun beat down on them without mercy. Read more
A Pot of Oil — A Simple Pot of Oil

How often do we come to a place in life where we feel there is no hope, no purpose for going on, no anything to live for? Some of us come to this place often while others just visit once in a while. But I am sure, most of us have been there one time or another.
During such times, the pain is intense, the fear is beyond comprehension and the confusion is great. What do we do at such times? Where do we go? Who do we ask for help? Where do we turn?
I have always maintained that there are only three problems in life — money, health and relationships. Any or all of these three could turn us around from self-confident, happy human beings into fearful, sad and hopeless underlings. Read more

On Becoming Prosperous: An Interview with Foster Hibbard Pt. 2

Part 1 of this interview is here.
A John Harricharan Interview
JH: So, we find that true spirituality is more than just happiness, love etc. It even ties in to money. What is it, Foster, that transforms money from the invisible to the visible?
Foster: Loving service to other human beings. When we give loving service, it is spirit that flows through us into the world, then returns to the place from whence it came in the form of physicality or money. So, when money comes to me I know that it is my own energy that went out in the form of loving service coming back to me. It’s my money, my children returning home. Or, in other words, my own energy transformed into matter. Read more
