I wanted to write a letter to the part of myself that dared to listen to her pain more than her need for stability, image, and protection. That part helped me discover my true unbelievably good life and unwavering security….

Years ago, I sat cross legged on a beach, and considered ending my life. I didn’t see another choice. I was an honors graduate of Harvard Law School on partnership track at a major law firm. I couldn’t bear my day-evening-weekend job, even with its lush paycheck and validation. I couldn’t figure out any other options with my frantic analytical mind. I had no sparkling faith or trust in myself, God, the Universe, or even the tooth fairy, back then.

You build that faith, when you leap— not before. Read more

Best of Blog: Your Secret Self: Awakening the Powers of the Inspired Self

You have no idea how strangely magical you are.

Most of us could never imagine the fire and promise we hold. We live in a culture that tells us to be “realistic.” That means dampen our enthusiasms and compromise our vision. We are encouraged to bow to the known world, and shun our unknown powers. But that’s not why we’re here. We’re here to listen to our inspired hearts, spread our full peacock feathers, and awaken the invincible love inside us. We’re here to discover, express, and unleash our true capacity.

When you follow inspiration, you follow an invitation to be more than you knew you were. You tap unlimited powers. You can sing, you can heal, you can run a business, and you can meet the people you need to meet. It’s where you take a different track and love replaces fear and ease eclipses struggle. Julia Cameron writes “Our dreams come from a divine source. Moving in the direction of our dreams moves us toward our divinity.” Yet, how many of us, in the name of safety, have spent a life time trying to put a cork on the genie? But that which fascinates you grants you wings. Anything you love holds power. There are miracles waiting for you in the “forbidden country” of your true desires. Read more

The Secret to More Energy: Using Your Unused Gifts

I talked to a woman who had been very gifted in music, but who hadn’t pursued it as an adult. “I am afraid of failing,” she said, but as we talked further, she admitted in the quiet tones of held back truth, that she felt like a failure now. She felt tired and angry, out of sorts with her life. I don’t blame her.

It takes more effort to create a life you don’t want than to create the life you crave.

An unused gift is a keg of dynamite. It’s dangerous. It leaks out and begins to poison you. It haunts your cells with a hoarse song, “use me or die, use me or die.” Your gifts are powerful energy sources. It takes so much energy to hold back life. It hurts to choose smallness. It hurts to let yourself down in secret ways, muffling the cries that no one else hears. It hurts to resist the evolutionary instinct within you to grow, express, go beyond survival and thrive, and stake your one true place upon this planet. Read more

Why Does it Take So Long to Succeed? Stop Learning More. Start Loving More

This is a shiny bizarre time for me. I am getting ready to launch another book next year. Behind the scenes, jack hammers pound away. I will redesign my website, my brand, whatever that is, and brainstorm new products, workshops, and services to support the new book. What that really means: I’m melting down, freaking out, staring into space– in the name of astounding progress.

As I go forward, I can’t help but look backward. Why has it taken me so long to really succeed?

Why did it take so long to write my books, develop my speaking chops, or become Our Lady of Transformation and Black Comedy in my workshops– an alchemy of Kahlil Gibran meets Woody Allen? Or to “find my voice” or reach in my ezine, blogs, facebook, and twitter? Maybe you’ve wondered the same thing in your life: like what takes so long for you to become who you’re meant to be. The Genius Code: How One Step Creates Everything

You may think that passionate, successful people shot up as an arrow one day — knowing exactly what they wanted to do. They drew up the perfect business plan on crisp white paper, not a grape jelly stain in sight. Got it done. They’re lying on a beach right now–near a bonfire of self-help books.

Except that’s not the way brilliance rolls.

If you talk to actual successful, inspired people they tell you, “I had no idea what I was doing.” And then they share the same ramshackle story every time. One thing led to another and another. “I fell into it.” “I stumbled into it.” “It was grace, man.” You almost get the image of them flopping around and falling into great big barrels of honey and investment portfolios. You might just think they were all lucky bozos. But there is a technology to every one of these stories that you can use. It’s the arc of their magic, or the genius code, if you will. It’s this. They took one step in the direction of their hunch or desire. That’s it.

In my career, people have thought I must be a marketing genius or opportunity magnet. But I’d say that what passes as “genius,” is really me following a sacred whisper inside. My tiniest gestures net results that others spend years and wads of money to make happen. I’m a believer in following that inner voice, the wispiest silver thread, and allowing the Mistress of Tapestry to weave together the Big Picture and the flying carpet. Read more
