In this inspirational article, master storyteller, Steve Goodier, shares a key piece of life wisdom about joy. Enjoy!

Marlin Perkins, long-time host of television’s “Wild Kingdom,” spent most of his life trying to put people on a first-name basis with animals. His wife Carol wanted to marry him so badly that she never let on that she did not fully share his passion for wildlife.

Soon after their marriage they went to central Africa. She tried valiantly not to complain during the long expedition, but one night she was exhausted. She said she wasn’t hungry and just wanted to go to bed. So she undressed and reached for her pillow, when out from underneath crawled a huge lizard that ran up her chest and down her arm. Read more

Steve Goodier Wisdom: Say, “AWE”

In this inspirational article, master storyteller, Steve Goodier, shares a key piece of life wisdom about wonderment. Enjoy!

Albert Einstein said that wonder is the source of all true art and all science. “He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.”

During our recent visit to Peru, we were amazed at the magnificent Incan architecture. Their precise stonework has withstood the centuries, though earthquakes have toppled other buildings all around. We were enthralled by the terraces the Incan people built on the sides of Andean mountains to grow crops. They created perhaps the finest irrigation system the world had known at the time. Read more

Your Spiritual Quotation for May 25/2017

Enjoy this week’s spiritual quote:

A human being is part of a whole, called by us the “universe,” a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few people near us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

At Nazca we looked in wonder at the so-called “Nazca Lines” — a series of lines and pictures the ancient Nazca people drew in the desert sand many hundreds of years ago. Archaeologists are still bewildered by the significance of these lines, yet we were thrilled to gaze in awe at this unusual relic of antiquity. Read more

Steve Goodier - Looking for Diamonds

Albert Einstein said “In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” Once discovered, such opportunities are like valuable diamonds hidden in the sand.

When I was a church pastor, a man stopped by my office to see me. He held out his hand and in it was a small, plastic gem stone. “I stepped on this gem stone when I was leaving church last Sunday,” he explained. “It became lodged in the sole of my shoe. You had spoken about how we are surrounded by diamonds — we only need to recognize them. I put the plastic stone in my pocket to remind me to recognize the “diamonds” that I need.

“I have been trying to sell my business. On Monday morning, a man stopped by who seemed interested in purchasing my stock. I thought, ‘Here’s my diamond - don’t let it get away!’ I sold the entire stock to him by noon. Read more

When Thomas Edison was a young boy, his teachers said he was so stupid he could never learn anything. He once said, “I remember I used to never be able to get along at school. I was always at the foot of my class… my father thought I was stupid, and I almost decided that I was a dunce.” What if young Thomas believed what they said about him?

Why do we persist in acting insanely?

One of my favorite quotes which I’m certain you’ve heard before is:

Insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results.~Unknown, but often attributed to Albert Einstein

It’s so true, isn’t it? When I desire a cup of coffee, I pour freshly boiled water into a cup, add a teaspoon of my favorite instant coffee, some organic milk, and hey presto, I get a decent cup of coffee, similar to the one I had yesterday and the day before and the day before that.

I certainly don’t get vanilla ice cream or carrot juice. Those, as you would know, require different ingredients and different equipment, not to mention different conditions relating to such things as temperature and agitation. Read more

Carol started to scream and couldn’t stop. She was so tired of being brave. Marlin came running, and after he saw that Carol wasn’t hurt, he put his arm around her and said, “Honey, think of how lucky you were to see him up close.” Read more
